Livestock is very important to the Rendille tribe. These resilient herders depend on their animals for survival. Before a well was drilled in Misano’s village, she had to walk for days to find water and grass for her family’s livestock, exposing them to hyenas along the way. Now that water is available near her, Misano is able to be home with her family and keep her animals healthy and safe. She finds spiritual nourishment as well from her audio Bible. In her words, “Christ speaks our language every evening now”.

Ntalaman and the other women in her Kuurtideer village frequently faced long, dangerous walks to water, filled with wild animals. After arriving at the natural well closest to them, they were forced to climb deep into a pit to reach the water at the bottom. The newly drilled Genesis Waters well has become a “symbol of hope, resilience, and progress” for families, as well as improved safety. During construction of the well, Ntalaman also obtained an audio Bible. She adds “I have the church in my house now. I am privileged to have both water and God’s word in my village.”

Rahim’s community would often lose hours each day walking to fetch water. In addition to this, they would lose time to illness that the water itself caused. The closest water source near his village was a swamp. The dirty water found there would often cause typhoid and other infections, especially in the young children. Now that a Genesis Waters well has been installed, over 250 people are benefiting. Children are no longer suffering from typhoid and diarrhea, and instead are back in school where they belong.

Priyanka is a 29-year-old woman who lives in a village called Nimbhora. She is a manual laborer in the fields, and she has four children. During the summer, the shallow village well would dry up, forcing her and the other women to take on additional labor fetching water from farther away. Now that a Genesis Waters well has been drilled in their area, Priyanka and the other women of the village are able to save hours of physical labor each day, helping to grant them rest before and after a hard day’s work.

Adhi and Adano live in the Hurri Hills, a part of northern Kenya that often faces severe and long-lasting droughts. As conditions became worse, this couple’s community was forced to sell livestock to pool funds for water delivery. On the day that Adhi and Adano went to sell their last cow, giving up milk for their family in the process, two Genesis partners came to their village to share the news that funds had been raised for a well. In this couple’s words, “This is God’s care for those who trust in Him, and we praise Him for His faithfulness.”
